Track Listing
Track 1 Crow Lake [03:01] The cold winter night is warmed by the lonesome call of a Chicago bound CP freight. The SOO locomotives will be on home rails tomorrow, but for now they are painting a forlorn picture on the hill above Crow Lake.
Track 2 Bollingbroke [05:10] The sun is just coming over the horizon on a June morning as a container train makes its way across the Mud Lake trestle, and grinds its way to Bolingbroke. The birds and swamp creatures resume their morning songs as the train fades into the distance, given the all clear by the detector.
Track 3 Kingston [03:03] Kingston and the bustle of passengers rushing to make the early morning Via to Toronto. The last call “all a-board” plays after the train is well and truly gone.
Track 4 Port Hope [06:51] Lake Ontario laps the beach at Port Hope as the Via and CN freights pass over the viaduct.
Track 5 Toronto Union Station [02:09] Toronto Union Station is alive with passengers moving from the subway to the Via and Go trains.
Track 6 Toronto Trains [05:07] Down on the station platform GO trains idle, depart, and arrive all in quick succession.
Track 7 Union Station Revisited [01:00] We are back in the concourse of Union Station, as passengers rush by.
Track 8 Toronto Subway [04:53] At the Rosedale subway station a few trains arrive and depart late in the afternoon on an early summer’s day
Track 9 West of Port Hope [04:27] A warm breeze rustles the mid-summer’s grass as a West bound CP mixed freight toils up the grade out of Port Hope, and rushes past with a quick blast of the horn.
Track 10 Lovekin [02:22] In the distance a CN freight calls on its way to Montreal.
As red-wing blackbirds call in the mid-morning heat, the far off call barely ruffles the lazy morning air at Lovekin.
Track 11 Bedell [08:42] A crash of couplers brings us to Bedell where cars are being lifted on a hot August afternoon. The Cicadas buzz lazily in the distance, a counterpoint to the slow movements playing out on the steel rails.
Track 12 Belleville [06:09] The Belleville station provides the backdrop for idling units, as safety pops create a setting for a through freight.
Track 13 Bedell revisited [09:46] Radio chatter from Smiths Falls and the Toronto RTC precede the passage of a freight by Bedell. Numerous flat spots add dimension to the clickety-clack, but as the detector declares, all is well. A SOO SD-40 moves slowly into the scene to set-off sodium chlorate for the paper plant in Gatineau.
Track 14 Bollingbroke revisited [05:52] The whine of a turbocharger dominates the scene as a trio of SD-40’s moves a container train past the siding at Bolingbroke.
Track 15 Crow Lake revisited [02:51] As it began so it ends with the distant night call of a freight heading west for Tichborne, as heard above Crow Lake.
