The Course

A CP container train passes over the bridge at Merrickville.
The Course is a sound ambience exploration, a expertly crafted collage of train and environmental recordings. Collected over a five month period, these source recordings were edited and assembled into one complete sonic structure. The Course is not a run of the mill sound effects CD. It's structure was crafted to highlite the beauty of a locomotive as it interacts and resonates in natural and man-made environments.

Siding at Bedell

Capturing a passing freight train at Belleville
All recording was done with a Schoeps KFM-6 spherical head microphone, which has an incredible dynamic range, allowing us to capture the delicate beauty of wind through dry grass as well as the thunderous clatter and roar of passing VIA and freight trains.

The Course consists of 15 distinct stereo audio tracks melded into one long continuous symphonic movement.
