| POM is the short for Petit Objet Musical, that is, a Little Musical Object. This pieces are composed so that the sound itself is the main aspect to be considered, rather than the way it evolves over time. They are offered as landscapes or "living sculptures", on which even though the inner material is constantly changing, the overall sensation is that of a uniform, distinct sound; and so, in terms of development, the temporal dimension of the piece is then almost irrelevant, as it is not intended to be listened for a particular amount of time. I record typically two to three minutes as to get a detailed image of all the nuances in the sound, but this are only windows into conceptually infinite pieces. In this context, kyma shows itself as a very suitable tool because of its modular nature, as it doesn't almost impose any limit to the way a certain parameter in a module can be related to any other, thus allowing creative nets of interconnected processes which are the core of this POMs. |
